As owner/moderator, how can I prevent members from deleting their own messages in the archive?

I would like to allow members to see their messages via the archive but some of them have deleted their own message from the database. I would like to preserve that archive especially the earlier messages but I think there is no way for me to download that database. Has anybody been able to do that?
